  • Applicants are required to submit an application and application fee, a headshot or clear photograph, resume, and two letters of recommendation preferably from people familiar with your acting or singing abilities. Upon receiving these, you will be scheduled for an audition and interview. A decision on your application can only be made after all these steps are completed.
  • Applicants to the Two Year Professional Workshop Programs must have earned a high school diploma or its equivalent.
  • Applicants to the Summer Workshop must be at least 15 years old. Our summer students usually range in age from 15-40.
  • All applicants are measured by professional standards of talent, experience and potential.
  • The deadline for application to all programs is always June 1st of that year.
  • All applicants will be notified through the mail regarding admission to the programs. We are sorry but we cannot provide audition evaluations or personalized feedback for applicants.

APPLICATION MATERIALS CHECKLIST

  1. Completed application, either typed or written clearly
  2. The second page of the application where you will indicate your prefered audition date
  3. A headshot or clear photograph
  4. A resume of your previous performing experience
  5. Two letters of recommendation (may be mailed separately as long as your name is stated clearly in the letter)
  6. Application Fee ($25 for U.S. citizens, $35 for international applicants) See below for details.

If you are having trouble with the download of the Acrobat Reader, please contact Adobe's help center. This bug has been reported to us before. REMEMBER:   You may simply need to work with Mac Plug-ins for the browser you are using. U.S. Citizens:
All U.S. applicants must pay a $25 application fee which can be paid by cash, check, money order, Master Card, or Visa. This should be paid in advance of your audition with your application.

International Applicants:
All International students must submit their application fee $35.00 U.S. dollars either by postal money order or check. All checks must be drawn on a bank with a New York / U.S. affiliate. All checks and money orders must be in U.S. Dollars ($).

*Student Visas (I-20) are provided for all International students after they have been accepted into the program. Once you have been accepted and returned contracts with payment, you must call the school to request the I-20 visa form and give all pertinent information for filing the form.



Applicants for the Professional Workshop and the Summer Workshop:
  • Should prepare two brief monologues which are contrasting in characterization, one contemporary piece and one classical piece, preferably Shakespeare. Auditionors wish to see realistic, dramatic material which is chosen from the candidate's actual range of ability.
  • Do not use the audition team as a point of focus for your audition.
  • Please break briefly before continuing with your second monologue.
  • You have a total of FIVE MINUTES for your two pieces.


Applicants for the Musical Professional Workshop and the Summer Musical Workshop:
  • Should prepare the same two monologues as above.
  • You will also need to prepare a song which need not be restricted to 16 bars. Please choose something that you feel shows off your vocal ability in it's best light.
  • Bring an accompaniment tape or CD for your musical audition. There will not be a live accompanist at auditions.
  • We will provide you with a tape or CD player for playback at the audition.
  • You have a total of FIVE MINUTES for your two monologue pieces. Applicants for the Musical Workshops will have additional time for their song.

All New York auditions take place at the Circle in the Square Theatre School, located on 50th Street (between Broadway and 8th Avenue). Locations for regional auditions will be announced to those applicants upon we have received their application and scheduled their audition.

In special cases, for those unable to make one of the above dates but who will be in New York before June 1st, individual auditions can be arranged at the Theatre School. Auditions must be scheduled for Monday through Friday, generally between the hours of 10am and 5pm. Weekend dates are not available for consideration. Email or call when you know the exact date you will be in New York and available to audition.
